Mr. Burke is a graduate of Louisiana Tech University (B.A. in Music
Education) and Northeast Louisiana University (M.M. in Saxophone
Performance). He began his teaching career in Haughton, Louisiana where his
band earned consistent superior ratings and won sweepstakes each of his
three years. After Mr. Burke left Haughton, he taught at West Mesquite H.S.
as an assistant band director. After one year at West
Mesquite, Mr. Burke moved to A.C. New Middle School for two years. In his
second year, the band earned a U.I.L. Sweepstakes Trophy, the first in the
school's twelve year history. Mr. Burke was hired in 2000 to be the first
band director at John Horn High School. Mr. Burke has taught clinics and
band camps throughout Texas and Louisiana and is an active performer on the
clarinet and saxophone. His teachers have included Dr. Edmund Winston,
Mr. Alan Keating, Mr. David Gibson, Mr. Raymond G. Young, Mr. Jack White,
and Mr. Steve Pederson, to name a few. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha
Sinfonia, Texas Music Educators Association, and Texas Bandmasters
Association.
H. Scott Rives- Associate Director Mr. Rives is a graduate of Woodward High School in Woodward, Oklahoma. He received his Bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (formerly known as Northeast Louisiana University) in 2002. While attending the university, he played in a variety of college ensembles and the Monroe Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Rives was the assistant band director at Ouachita Parish High School in Monroe, Louisiana for one year, before moving to Mesquite. He is a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, Texas Music Educators Association, and the International Horn Society.

John Bingaman- Associate Director Mr. Bingaman joins us this year after teaching 6 years at Allen HS. He is a graduate of ULM. (Geaux Indians or Warhawks!) More info to come soon
April Estrella- Associate Director Mrs. Estrella is a graduate of Abilene Christian University and Texas Tech University. She is a woodwind specialist. More info to come soon.
Steve Lozano- Terry Middle School Director Steven R. Lozano is an eighteen year veteran in the education business. Mr. Lozano is coming to Horn HS from San Antonio, where he has spent, until now, his entire career. Mr. Lozano has taught all levels of band and is looking forward to joining the Jaguar Band staff. Mr. Lozano earned his Bachelor degree from the University of Texas (Hook 'em, Mr. Rives) and his Masters degree from Northwestern St. of Louisiana (Fork 'em, Mr. Burke). During his career in San Antonio, Mr. Lozano was a member, principal trumpet, President of the Board and occasional guest conductor for the San Antonio Municipal Band. Additionally, Mr. Lozano has been active in his church, St. Andrew's UMC and was involved in the local theater community.
Perrin J. Smith- Berry Middle School Director Perrin Smith comes to us from Irving Nimitz High School. We are looking forward to working with Ms. Smith at Berry Middle School. More info coming soon.
